Refrigerators use electricity energy to transfer heat from the cool interior of the refrigerator to the somewhat warm environs of the home. The same goes with an air conditioner which uses energy to transfer heat from the interior of the home or even of a building to the relatively warm environment outside.
An air conditioner is comprised of several mechanical components, such as the evaporator which is a cold indoor coil that works the cooling process of an air conditioner. There is also the condenser which is a hot outdoor coil that releases the collected heat outside. These two components – the evaporator and condenser coils, are circuitous tubing made of copper, hemmed in by aluminum fins.
Also, there is this pump called the compressor, which moves a heat transfer fluid or refrigerant between the evaporator and the condenser. This pump forces the refrigerant through the circuit of tubing and fins in the coils. Consequently, the liquid refrigerant vaporizes in the indoor evaporator coil thus pulling the heat out of indoor air and cooling the home. The hot refrigerant gas is pumped outdoors into the condenser where it reverts back to a liquid, giving up its heat to the outside air flowing over the condenser’s metal tubing and fins.
